The Best Robot Vacuums and Mops of 2024 (1)

Written by Jonathan Chan, senior manager of lab operations with a decade of experience testing products.

Updated April 5, 2024

Robot vacuums with mop attachments aren’t a new thing. However, in recent years the concept has really come into its own and you can get robot vacuums and mops that are a jack of two trades, mastering both the mop and vacuum.

We’ve spent the better part of a decade testing robot vacuums and mops from brands like Eufy, iRobot, Ecovacs, Narwal, Greenworks, and Roborock. So we have the data to back up our selections of the best robot vacuums and mops. We even have data on robot vacuums that can deal with pet hair.

As of right now, the iRobot Roomba j7+ Combo (available at Amazon for $899.00) is the best robot vacuum and mop for most people. If you’re looking for a model with tons of tech, check out the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni (available at Amazon). However, there are plenty of great robot vacuum and mop hybrids in our guide to choose from.

Best Overall

iRobot Roomba Combo j7+

  • Dimensions: 13.3 inches x 3.4 inches (W x H)
  • Weight: 7.4 pounds

The iRobot Roomba j7+ Combo has a lot going for it, most importantly it cleans your floors well and is easy to use.

First off, the Combo excels at vacuuming debris. During testing, it picked up an average of 9.85 grams per run, which places it at the top tier of all robot vacuums we’ve tested.

Its mop is also exceptional. Most other robots with mop attachments have the potential to drag them across carpets. The Combo solves this problem by having the mop flip onto its topside when it detects carpet, meaning it will avoid carpeted areas.

iRobot also engineered the j7+ Combo with useful features, like the ability to self-empty. When the Combo finishes cleaning, a secondary vacuum in the dock suctions everything from the dust bin and places it into a self-sealing bag that can hold up to 60 days' worth of debris.

The j7+ Combo smarts are what makes it stand out amongst the competition. iRobot invested a lot in machine learning and navigation. The company placed a forward-facing camera on this robot, meaning it deftly avoids obstacles like power cables and pet accidents. This is just one of many great smart features the j7+ Combo offers.

For the best robot vacuums and mops, you can't go wrong with the iRobot j7+ Combo.

Best Upgrade

Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni

  • Dimensions: 12.6” x 13.9” x 3.7” (W x D x H)
  • Weight: 10.9 pounds

Bells and whistles ring galore on the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni, a fantastic robot vacuum-mop hybrid. Competition is stiff in this product category, including from its predecessor the X1 Omni, iRobot’s Roomba Combo j7+, and the brand new Roomba Combo j9+ (which is so new we haven’t been able to test it yet).

In our lab, the Deebot X2 Omni picked up an average 9.3 grams of dirt per run—anything close to 10 grams gets a gold star. As a mop, its rear spinning brushes allow it to scrub stains and dust out of bare floors. Its charging base has the ability to clean the robot’s mop pads and empty its dust bin automatically.

This Deebot also has a number of smart features, like camera streaming and remote control. The only thing that gives us pause about the X2 Omni is its price tag, which is higher than most in its class. We feel its an excellent value, but some consumers won't want to pay this much.

Best for Pet Owners

Ecovacs Deebot N10 Plus

  • **Dimensions*: 13.7” x 3.6” (W x H)
  • **Weight*: 8 pounds

The Ecovacs designed the N10 Plus for pet owners. We put the N10 Plus to the test by placing it on a carpeted platform covered in Bernese Mountain dog hair, and this robot dealt with it in stride. The pet hair did not become clogged in the vacuum or wound around the main brush head.

The N10 also has an auto-emptying base, where the contents of the dustbin get placed in a self-sealing bag. The N10 bags are treated with several antibacterial substances to help cut back on odors. The E11 filter is rated for anything larger than 300 microns and treated with the same antibacterial spray.

During test runs, the N10 picked up 10 grams of debris per cleaning cycle. This robot vacuum and mop offers above-average performance for its feature set and price point. However, the mopping results enthused us less. The N10 is good at removing dust from hardwood but not stains.

For the best robot vacuum and mop that also helps deal with odor, the Ecovacs N10 is worth checking out.

Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni

  • Dimensions: 14.25” x 4” (W x H)
  • Weight: 9.6 pounds

The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is one of the best robot vacuums and mops with all the bells and whistles. The marquee takeaway is that the Omni cleans well but also self-empties and cleans its mop pads.

During our vacuuming tests, the Omni impressively picked up 11 grams of debris on our obstacle course. It also aced our mopping test, cleaning up chocolate syrup from linoleum flooring.

After a cleaning cycle, the Omni returned to its base and emptied the contents of its dust bin into a self-sealing bag. It also rinsed out its mop pads with water from a clean tank and suctioned the dirty water into a separate water tank. It can store dirty water for up to a month. And in our opinion, the more automated the robot, the better.

The Omni boasts beneficial smart features, like the ability to map your home. For example, you can direct where and when to clean in the companion app or via voice assistants, like Alexa or Google.

The large dock, which measures 22.75” x 17” x 17.5” (H x W x D), is one reason the Omni isn't our No. 1 pick. Also, the mop pads have the potential to drag across thick carpets and rugs. However, if you don't have many rugs and don't mind the large base, we think the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni makes a fantastic robot vacuum and mop floor cleaner.

Greenworks GRV-5011

  • **Dimensions*: 14” x ~3.3” (W x H)
  • **Weight*: 9.1 pounds

Greenworks is better known for lawn care products. However, the company also makes a mean (but, disappointingly, not green) robot vacuum and mop in the GRV-5011. During testing, the data showed that the GRV-5011 is much better at vacuuming than mopping. Its 8,000pa motor picked up 9.2 grams of debris per run on our obstacle course.

The GRV-5011 is capable of self-emptying, placing the contents of its dustbin into a self-sealing bag.

Its ability to mop lags a little behind its vacuuming prowess. For example, when we used the mop function to clean up baby powder on laminate hardwood, the GRV-5011 left streaks.

Even though the mop was slightly below average for the price, we appreciate the smart mapping features. The companion app is also surprisingly comprehensive for a company specializing in yard equipment.

Shark AI Ultra RV2610WA

  • Dimensions: 14.96" x 5.7” (W x H)
  • Weight: 7.2 pounds

Shark is a company that likes to meet consumers where they are. The Shark RV2610WA is one of the best robot vacuums and mops that can self-empty into a bin. During the vacuuming tests, it picked up an average of 7.7 grams of debris per run. It then deposited what it cleaned into a removable container in its dock.

The RV2610WA is one of the few robot vacuums in our guide that self-empties into another dustbin. We like this feature for two reasons: You don't need to buy extra bags, and it reduces the amount of odor and dust plume control.

The RV2610WA also aced our mopping test, removing baby powder and chocolate syrup from laminate hardwood and linoleum flooring.

On multiple occasions, the self-emptying failed horribly, keeping it from claiming a top spot in our buying guide. The robot did not berth correctly, and instead of self-emptying, it spewed debris everywhere.

Additionally, during testing, the RV2610WA struggled to climb over thresholds when transitioning from hardwood to carpets.

Ultenic MC1

  • Dimensions: 13.94″ x 3.88″ (W x H)
  • Weight: 8.7 pounds

The Ultenic MC1 is what we’d call "budget luxury." It has a lot of high-end features like the ability to self-empty and clean its own mop pads. However, it’s much cheaper than competitors like the Ecovcas X2 Omni that can do the same. By being able to clean itself, the MC1 requires less hands-on attention, which is really the whole point of getting a robot floor cleaner.

The MC1 also boasts a great app that lets the robot create smart maps of your home. These maps allow you to direct the robot to clean specific areas that need more attention or to avoid spots like pet bowls.

On the performance side, the MC1 has a great set of mop pads. The spinning motion allows them to deal with dust and moderate stains. The ability to rewet the pads when needed lets the MC1 maintain hardwood floors with ease. However, when it comes to vacuuming, the MC1 isn’t quite as adept. During testing, it picked up an average of 7.2 grams of debris per run. Low shelves and between furniture legs are where this robot stumbled.

Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

  • Dimensions: 13.75” x 3.75” (W x H)
  • Weight: 9.85 pounds

Roborock is one of the most popular robot vacuum brands on Amazon, and the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is a great example of what the company offers. The S8 Pro Ultra is capable of vacuuming, mopping, self-emptying, and self-cleaning its mop pads.

While atop our robot vacuum obstacle course, the S8 picked up an average of 8.5 grams of debris. That puts it slightly above average but behind the pack compared to similarly priced models. The trend continued with its mopping abilities. The S8 can dust well, but when stuck on stains proved a little too much.

Where the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra stumbled the most was with some of its promises. Roborock advertises that the S8 can avoid common household hazards like pet accidents. However, when we put this claim to the test, this robot failed miserably, making a huge mess for us to clean up.

Pros

  • Good navigation

  • Can self-empty and wash own mop pads

Cons

  • Middling cleaning performance

Narwal Freo

  • Dimensions: 13.8” x 4.1” (W x H)
  • **Weight*: 9.6 pounds

The Narwal Freo is one of the best robot vacuums and mops that can clean its mop pads and is the only robot floor cleaner in our guide that is compatible with a cleaning solution.

While on the obstacle course, the Freo picked up around 8.8 grams of debris. While mopping, the Freo can deal with a moderate amount of stuck-on stains and adhered dust.

However, since the Freo is very expensive, we wanted to put this automated floor cleaner through more rigorous paces. When we placed it in a regular room, it got trapped a lot, requiring our intervention—mostly on power cords.

At the time of publication, the Freo costs over $1,200. For that price, we expected it to be near perfect, and in our opinion, it failed to deliver that deep clean we were looking for.

  • Quiet

  • Navigation needs improvements

iLife A10

  • **Dimension*: 12.99” x 12.6” x 3.74” (L x W x H)
  • **Weight*: 2.7 pounds

A robot floor cleaner is not for everyone. Sometimes automated cleaners struggle to jive with your floor, pets, or furniture. However, if you’re curious to see what having a robot vacuum is like, you might want to try a model like the iLife A10.

This floor cleaner has two things going for it: affordability and a comprehensive app. You can use the A10 to acclimate your family to having a robot vacuum around without putting too much of a dent in your wallet.

It also has a comprehensive app. You can start, stop, and schedule cleanings. The A10 even creates virtual floor plans via laser navigation, allowing you to direct the unit to specific locations to spot clean.

However, the A10 is not that great of a cleaner. It picked around 6.6 grams per cleaning cycle on our testing course. On the mopping front, it lags behind its competitors. Still, it’s hard to beat that price.

How We Tested Robot Vacuums and Mops

The Best Robot Vacuums and Mops of 2024 (15)

Our team of Reviewed lab experts developed our own testing metrics for the best robot vacuums and mops. To test a robot's ability to navigate and vacuum, we put it on a special platform that contains simulations for furniture legs, different carpet types, shelves, thresholds, and a major drop-off.

We placed special cork, ground to a specific density, in and around each obstacle. This allowed us to measure how much debris a robot picks up and how far into each obstacle the brushes got.

There’s also a pressure sensor that can measure how hard a robot rams. We used this to measure how gentle a robot vacuum is on your furniture. Usually, the automated floor cleaner is too good at navigation and refuses to bump the sensor.

We also used pet hair on specific obstacles for the cleaning and navigation tests.

The mopping tests occur on a smaller platform made of hardwood and linoleum. We dust the platform with baby powder and a few squirts of chocolate syrup.

We observe the cleaning runs and track the time for these tests.

We started testing the best robot vacuums and mops way back in 2015. We are continuously researching, experimenting, and improving our methodology.

What You Should Know About Robot Vacuums and Mops

How Do Robot Vacuums and Mops Work?

There are two basic configurations for robot vacuums and mops.

The more common form is a robot vacuum with a mop attachment, meaning the mop is a separate piece that pops in and out. The mop attachments typically use a dusting cloth. In our opinion, it's a crap shoot whether or not they have a water tank.

The second system is permanent mop pads. These pads can be round or semi-circular. These get wet via a built-in water tank in the robot or a separate system in the dock.

What to Look for When Buying a Robot Vacuum and Mop

To get the most out of your robot vacuum and mop, buy one designed for your needs. If you need light help between manual cleanings, invest lightly and go for a model with a cloth mop and a regular dust bin.

For a robot vacuum and mop that does the most of the work, get one that can self-empty and self-clean.

You can also save time by purchasing a model with mapping features. The ability to press a button on your phone and have the robot clean a specific area is a huge timesaver.

Pet owners should look for a robot vacuum and mop with object recognition. These models have a forward-facing camera to watch for common hazards like power cables and pet accidents.

Are Robot Vacuums and Mops Worth it?

Yes, automated floor cleaners help you save time—something you can’t get more of. Hybrids are especially useful if switching from a robot mop or robot vacuum. That way, you already know if your pets are okay with having a robot moving about your home and if there are any major problem areas where they get stuck or lost. A hybrid model gives you more options.
